Construction on the 800,000 gallon outdoor pool began in 1935 with funding from the Emergency Relief Administration. In 1941, the E. Milton Grant Community Pool and Playground was officially dedicated. Reverend Grant of the Congregational Church has devoted much time and effort to make this a reality. The Robinson Memorial Bathhouse was built and dedicated that same year, named after LuLu Robinson who had donated $1,000 for its construction. The waterslide was added in 1946 and the pool area was paved in 1956.
The city’s second pool, the Indoor Pool, was built in 1978 on the grounds of the Northern Maine Fair and opened to the public in 1979.
