Reed Tavern, founded by Leonard Reed in 1842, was the third building in the Village of Presque Isle. In 1884, a devastating fire broke out and burned the tavern which also served as a hotel to the ground. Another hotel, the Presque Isle House Hotel, was built on the same location. In January 1900, the Presque Isle House Hotel was destroyed by fire. The remnants of the building were not demolished until September of 1930 in getting ready for the construction of a new hotel, the Northeastland, on the same site.
